Strongsville, Ohio (June 10, 2016) – Strongsville Youth Hockey Club (“SYHC”) today announced that it has named Doug Hauser as its Hockey Director. Coach Hauser served as the Head Hockey Coach at Padua Franciscan High School in Parma for 28 years, winning three State Championships and making seven trips to the State Final Four. The Bruins were four-time State Runners-up and three-time Baron Cup Champions with Coach Hauser at the helm. Padua won 561 hockey games under Coach Hauser, which places him 4th all-time in career coaching victories in the State of Ohio. Coach Hauser’s former players have continued their hockey careers at all levels of Junior, NCAA and professional hockey in the United States, Canada and Europe.
“Doug has been committed to hockey in Cleveland for nearly 50 years, and youth hockey in particular. He has developed college and professional players and mentored many coaches throughout the area. He will do a tremendous job with the kids at Strongsville,” said Perry Cohagan, former Padua and Harvard Hockey Captain. John Geffert, President of SYHC, said, “We are excited to welcome Doug to SYHC and look forward to his guidance and leadership as we continue to improve our program. Doug brings unparalleled experience and a unique perspective to the ice.” Coach Hauser added, “I’m really looking forward to taking the reins at SYHC and getting back on the ice with youth hockey players and working with coaches and parents. The Strongsville Youth Hockey Club, guided by the ADM principles, is a program that is doing it right and I look forward to building on their current vision.”
Doug replaces Tim Sullivan, who served as Hockey Director for three years and successfully guided the program in its full implementation of USA Hockey’s American Development Model (“ADM”), including its designation as USA Hockey Model Association in 2014. Coach Sullivan recently approached the SYHC Board and expressed a desire to spend more time with his family, including attending more his daughters’ sporting events. Coach Sullivan added, “It has been my pleasure to lead SYHC as Hockey Director for the past three years. As a lifetime hockey player and coach, it has been fun to work alongside the SYHC coaches and help develop youth hockey players at SYHC.” Coach Sullivan teaches history and has served as the Head Hockey Coach at Holy Name High School for thirteen years. During his time at Holy Name, Coach Sullivan has guided the Green Wave to a Baron Cup Championship in 2007 and the District Finals in two of the last four seasons. In 2014, Coach Sullivan was named Great Lakes Hockey League Coach of the Year and, in 2016, he was named Liberty Ford Coach of the Year for All Men’s Sports.
SYHC is a long-standing member of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL) and is one of the largest and strongest youth hockey programs in Northern Ohio. SYHC follows the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) at all levels. Our club is one of only 19 USA Hockey Model Associations in the United States and the only one in the Mid-American District. SYHC offers 8U Mite (Red, White and Blue levels), 10U Squirt, 12U Peewee, and 14U Bantam programs and has approximately 225 players. SYHC is organized to provide young people with an amateur hockey program implementing ADM principles in an engaging, safe and fun environment that maximizes skill development. In line with ADM, SYHC believes that placing skaters with similar desires and abilities together will provide the best opportunity for development and experience for all participants, keep them engaged in the sport, and ultimately grow the game. SYHC is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit youth hockey club run entirely by volunteers.
Congrats to Squirt 1 on a great weekend of hockey!
