Big changes coming to youth hockey, and it’s all about names.

Following the similar moves by USA Hockey and the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL), the Strongsville Youth Hockey Club will retire the use of traditional age classification names.  Starting with the 2017-2018 season, age categories for youth hockey will be referred to only by age number — 8U, 10U, 12U & 14U. This change will bring our club into alignment not only with hockey’s US governing body but also recently approved changes within our League.

The new naming format fits with the way many other sports name their divisions. For families new to hockey, it is part of a broader set of initiatives designed to promote the hockey and aid in the onboarding and understanding of the sport.

Look for the naming changes to be made over the summer to our website and official communications.
